Student Handouts
Classroom-ready texts for KS3 and GCSE students
These handouts adapt content from the main learning modules into texts written for secondary students. Each is 1–2 pages of A4, with key terms defined and language pitched at Year 9 reading level. They are designed to be used alongside the lesson plans and source sheet.
Hashima Island: A Short History
From coal mine to World Heritage Site — the island's 90-year story in plain language. Supports Lesson 1 of the mini-unit and the single-lesson plan.
Handout BThe UNESCO Debate
What Japan promised in 2015, what happened next, and why it matters. Includes brief source excerpts with provenance. Supports Lesson 2.
Handout CThe Project That Couldn't Be Released
How a virtual reality project about Hashima was blocked — not by censorship, but by procedures. Supports Lesson 3. The most conceptually challenging handout.
